FYI

On Easter morning T.J. was getting dinner ready for after church. He put a stick of butter in a Pyrex baking dish in the oven to melt. As he was getting it out of the oven to add the rest of the ingredients, the dish exploded into a million pieces before he could even set it on the stove top. As soon as it exploded, I heard him yell, "I have glass in my eyes!" We didn't waste any time getting him and the kids into the car. I drove 80 mi an hour to get to the the ER. After seeing the doctor and having a CT, we found out that he had multiple abrasions in both eyes and little pieces of glass that would have to work themselves out after his eyes were irrigated. That was a very scary day for us, but we are so grateful that he was ok. We just wanted to get the word out that Pyrex can be pretty dangerous....we won't be using it anymore!

Holy Smokes!! That's cause for a lawsuit. Good heavens. Especially if he has permanent damage to his eyes!!!!

I just did a search on it, and apparently it's pretty common. I guess it shatters when it has a quick, drastic temperature change. It can also happen if the pyrex is used under the broiler.

Crazy.

I was so worried for you both when I found out that day that he had gotten glass in his eyes, I didnt know what from though, I too had a similar experience with the pyrex...it exploded as soon as i pulled it out of the oven and put it on the cool oven top. I was shocked I was lucky that something was in it, it shielded me from a majority of the glass. It broke in to the food and shattered out the sides and just cut my arms and legs, I am so sorry that it go into to TJ's eyes. I am so glad he is ok!

Wow, poor TJ I hope he doesn't have any permanent damage.
Andy had went to the F1 racing park one day and that same night one of his eyes started swelling up, he told me that it hurt so bad he needed to be taken to the ER, I instead took him to an eye doctor I know and he took him to his office and got them out. I can’t even imagine how painful it must have been for TJ.

How scary! I heard that you had to take your husband to the hospital on that Sunday but I just figured he had to work or something! Will his eyes be okay? That is horrible. However, it is very nice that he makes dinner. (That picture on your sidebar of Topher is the cutest!!)

Hey TJ! Good to hear from you. Sorry it took me so long to reply. I am not much of a blogger - I leave that up to my wife, and once in a while I think to check in on it to see what she is publishing. Anyway, you have a great looking family, and you still look the same! I remember all the fun we had in the dorms back at EA that one year. Good times! I guess Stuart lives right out here by us - I run into him once in a while. Pretty scary story about your cooking experience! You are lucky not to be blind! Now I have one more reason to tell my wife why I shouldn't have to cook! Take Care, and keep in touch!

Hey Vanessa, I found your blog as I was blog stalking. Cute family. That pyrex thing happened to me once when I was taking Brownies out of the oven it completely exploded and went everywhere. That's so dang scary. Anything in the eye is especially scary. Hope you're doing well. You're little baby is too dang cute.
